Austin fire fighters beat police officers in blood drive | Austin Police, Austin Policy


Giving blood is not just a way to save lives -- this weekend it's also a way for Austin's police officers and fire fighters to compete. The prize was announced in this year's 4th annual Boots vs Badges Blood Drive Competition at the blood center in South Austin Saturday afternoon. Last year, the Austin Police Department won -- this year, the fire fighters came out on top, beating APD by one unit, 181 to 180. The winning team received a trophy.

"In the summer time when the schools are not in session, it gets tight if we don't have people step up and fill that gap," said Blood and Tissue Center CEO Marshall Cothran. "Our public servants from the Austin Police Department and Austin Fire Department have been stepping up."

The amount of blood given by both departments was more than twice than last year. Read More
